Add SCATS Count Information to your site

Find, Configure, Map: Then turn SCATS information into a count source for your site.

Adding a SCATS feed to a site is a two-step job:

  1. Configure the SCATS source — tell Mooven which detector numbers belong to which direction.

  2. Add the SCATS to your site — toggle it on as a count source on the map.

Once you've configured a SCATS site once, you can re-use that configuration on any other Mooven site that needs it.

Part 1 — Configure the SCATS file

  1. From Site monitoring, click the Data sources tab and then the SCATS sub-tab. You'll see the list of SCATS sites available to your organisation.

  2. Find the SCATS site you want and click on it. The right-hand panel opens with two tabs: Configurations and File Submissions. If a reference document (like an Open Data operations sheet) has been uploaded, you'll see it here.

  3. Open the operations sheet PDF if you need to confirm which detector numbers belong to which direction. The detector map and group allocation diagrams are usually all you need.

Tip: jot down the detector numbers for each direction before you build the configuration — saves jumping back and forth.

  4. Switch back to the Configurations tab and click Add new configuration. Give the config a name (the site name is fine) and pick the reference file submission you want to use as a thumbnail.

  5. Click Add direction. Name the direction (e.g. Eastbound) and pick the detector numbers that feed it from the dropdown. Repeat for each direction you want to record. When you're done, click Create.

Example only: You can decide how you group the directions / turns / pass-throughs.

  6. The SCATS site now shows a green tick in the list and your direction mapping appears in the side panel. You're done with Part 1.

Part 2 — Add the SCATS to your site

  1. Open the site you want the data to appear on and go to the Current performance tab. SCATS sites show as small markers on the map.

  2. Click the marker for the SCATS you just configured. Flip the toggle to on. You'll see a Datasource config added confirmation.

  3. The SCATS now appears under Count Sources in the left-hand panel alongside any other count sources you've added.

  4. Click the SCATS in the Count Sources list and scroll to the Vehicle count chart. Pick your direction and time interval — your data is live.

  1. Click → toggle → done. Data shows up in seconds.

Common questions

I can't see the SCATS site I want in the list.

That usually means it hasn't been onboarded for your organisation yet. Reach out to your Mooven contact and we'll get it added.

Why do I have to map directions manually?

Because SCATS detector numbering doesn't follow a universal convention — each intersection's detectors are laid out by the local road controlling authority. Mapping them once means your vehicle counts and direction labels stay accurate for everyone using the data.

Can I use one SCATS configuration on multiple sites?

Yes. Once you've configured a SCATS site, any team member with access can toggle it on as a count source from any of your sites — no need to re-do the direction mapping.
